EAD 315 Introduction- Elizabeth Wenner

Hello,

My name is Elizabeth Wenner, I'm from Saline, MI. I've just completed my sophomore year. I'm majoring in Advertising with a minor in Educational Studies. A random combination, I know. I was previously a Special Education major, and I recently just changed my major to Advertising. Unable to completely give up education, I decided to minor in it.

The ultimate goal I hope to get out of this course is new leadership skills that I can apply after I graduate. I want to have the confidence and a strong background to be able to lead people, whether that is in the workplace or in any activity I find myself in.

For the summer I'm currently working and taking summer classes. After this first session concludes, I'm going to Europe. As excited as I am for summer classes, I'm itching for this semester to move fast because I can't wait for vacation!

The artifact I chose that represents me as a leader are two things I did my senior year of high school (2010-2011). First was a group I created at my high school. I created, organized, and led it. It is called Redefining Beautiful. The purpose of the group was to create confidence and promote the natural beauty that everyone has. In high school, especially girls, tend to lose sight of how important it is to love yourself, and often don't realize how easy it is to fall into unrealistic body images. The group promotes natural beauty, and all body figures. Every Tuesday students would wear shirts that read "Redefining Beautiful" and would wear no make up. This helped to show other girls what confidence truly is, and also helped many girls overcome their insecurities by being apart of a group who were all supportive of each other. When I graduated I passed the group onto a member, who keeps up with its mission. Today, we have 345 members on FaceBook, here's the page if anyone wants to check it out: https://www.facebook.com/groups/redefiningbeauty/
In addition to this, while in high school, I also created and produced a LipDub to showcase my high school for the district. A lipdub is a single shot music video. We used our senior class song, and videotaped our seniors lip synching, showcasing different clubs, athletic teams, and parts of our high school. Here it is if you want to check it out- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3FUaFllDsA
Though the video was shot in one day, this project took months organize and to complete, and involved a great deal of leadership between getting the word out, organizing students, organizing our team, and producing.
