Being in a classroom, I understand the importance of being a leader. I want to learn how to be an encouraging role model for my students and also learn how to get them truly excited about learning. Ideally, I want to be able to create a trusting and efficient classroom community, which I believe, can only occur when the teacher demonstrates strong leadership skills. Additionally, I am going to be a camp counselor this summer at a YMCA camp. I would like to learn how to better inspire my campers and how to make decisions that can accommodate the different needs of each individual within a collective group. I think that leaders must be understanding, adaptable and think of good resolutions. In this class, I hope to learn helpful problem-solving strategies, that I can apply to real life situations.

I am very excited to be a camp counselor this summer! I will be doing that while finishing up my final classes to graduate. In addition to this class, I am taking one more online summer course through MSU.  I am also excited for my family's reunion during the fourth of July! Every year we get together at my Uncle's cottage in Muskegon. My relatives come together from Europe, Colorado, and Michigan of course!

An artifact that represents me as a leader is my iPod. I like to create harmony in whatever situation that I encounter and I like to be upbeat. I want people to get along, although I know that this is not always possible. Just like my iPod's headphones, I try to hear what other people have to say. In a difficult situation, I am usually able to step back to and think about the other person's viewpoint and sentiments. More than anything, I know how to "push play" and get started on what needs to be done. I am comfortable taking charge and making sure that the tasks of the group get accomplished.

A couple summers ago I took a class and we read Sir Ken Robinson's book about creativity and education. I thought it was super interesting! Here's an interesting link where he gives a speech about it for anyone who is interested:
