EAD 315 Introduction: Scott Besko

Hello,

My name is Scott Besko and I'm from St. Johns, Michigan.  St. Johns is a small farming town north of Lansing about 20 miles.

I am a sophomore studying Kinesiology here at Michigan State where I hope to some day be a college basketball coach.  I am a student manager for Tom Izzo and the Men's Basketball team where I work nearly all year around doing a variety of different tasks.  My dad was a high school basketball coach in my hometown and basketball has always been a huge part of my life.

I took this course because leadership is one of the biggest parts of coaching.  Coaching is all about leading a group of people to accomplish the goals they set out for.  I hope this course teaches me what it means to be a leader and how to be more confident in myself.

This summer I am taking two classes the first summer semester and also working some basketball camps.  With basketball taking up so much of my time during the year I am not able to take very many credits so I take summer classes to stay on track to graduate in 4 years.  In June I am working 5 different basketball camps here in East Lansing and possibly a few others out of state.  Once I am done with class and camps, I plan on spending the rest of my summer up north at my cottage in Lake City.  My family likes to go boating and play golf while at our cottage.

The artifact that I believe represents me as a leader is a whistle.  This is because of my aspirations to be a college basketball coach.  I feel like a coaches whistle is a very important piece to being able to lead their team.  If a coach didn't have a whistle it would be very difficult for them to run practice and get the team to listen when they explained things.
