Kate Osbourn's Introduction

Hello,
My name is Kathryn Osbourn, but everyone has always called me Kate
I was born and raised in Saline Michigan where I lived until I graduated in 2003
I then moved to the Upper Peninsula to Marquette MI where I attended Northern Michigan University. I graduated in 2009 with my Bachelors in Integrated Science Secondary Education. This qualifies me to teach 6th-12th grade science.
I recently moved to Charlotte MI to follow my husband who just completed his first year of law school.

I am currently teaching Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science  at Marshall Academy. Our School year ends on June 7th, and as a second year teacher I know that I will need to really focus and apply myself in order to attain my high standards of performance both in my classroom, and here with you all.

Last month I was admitted to MSU to being my Masters in Teaching and Curriculum,
I initially chose Student Leadership Training as the first class to take for my Masters believing that it was an instructional class that will increase my skills and understanding of how to create student leaders. In a small school like our academy I run both our Chemistry club, and our Japan club I am working to create student leaders in these groups, and hope to someday help run our National Honor Society chapter, or become a coach.

This summer I will be taking one additional class, and working over my curriculum for next year’s classes, as well as spending 1-2 weeks at Glacier National Park hiking and camping.
The artifact that would choose to represent leadership is a jump rope. In my metaphor  of a jump rope you would find that a leader is like the handle. The handle directs the motion of the rope. If the handle were to become detached from the group it would not be able to lead. It is important that the leader maintain a connection with the rope which represents the individuals in the group or organization. If the handle becomes broken  or old it can be replaced, new pieces of rope can be tied to make the rope longer, or parts of the rope can be cut out to make it shorter. Many types of materials and people can become the rope that is used. Sometimes many organizations or types of people come together to work together this is much like Double Dutch where two separate ropes are used in one games. I believe that the jump rope is a good artifact that shows many of the qualities of leaders.
