Current Events Connection Week 4 Susie Pohl

I chose this video because the Mercy Corps group is inspiring change in the Haitian community through strong citizenship. The members are learning how to be good citizens in order to reconstruct after the deforestation of the land and create a strong group mentality that encourages sustainability. One member also talks about her future and how she wants to share these accomplishments with her children. She wants to continue the inspiration of taking care of the environment so that the new community members learn how to be good citizens as well. The community is taking responsibility because they are taking initiative to take care of the mountains which affect farming and erosion. Working together can better inspire the group members to continue to look for chances to improve their community and is teaching them how to collaborate in order to build an underlying belief that the environment should be taken care of. This small action has potentially strong repercussions that can be integrated into the responsibility associated with each "citizen" of the community.
