Curtis Kocher: Week 6 Current Event Connection

Congruent leaders have the ability to stand up for what they believe in no matter what the social norm is. They also carry authentic leadership because they know their beliefs can benefit the groups they are supporting. The current event that I decided to choose was a news article about the protestors in Turkey rioting because their government is enforcing too many rules on the general public. I feel that the people who rioted in Turkey show major congruency. In order to be congruent, people must not be afraid to take action and show people what they truly believe in. The rioters in Turkey showed this by protesting in the city of Istanbul. These protestors also showed courage. Even though they ended up being broken apart by tear gas, the protestors were able to go against the social norm and fight for what they believed in. The goal of the protestors was to show the world how horrible the public was being treated in Turkey, and even though nothing changed, the protestors were successful in showing the world how bad they are being treated.
