Week 4: Citizenship & Current Event Connection

http://news.yahoo.com/5th-victim-santa-monica-shooting-dies-183258886.html

I chose this article about the Santa Monica shooting because it was a tragic event. Tragic events tend to bring Americans together. Even though Americans have their differences, there is always togetherness when a greater evil joins the picture. Civility is when one becomes responsibly connected to the community/society in which one resides by actively working toward change to benefit others through care, service, social responsibility, and community involvement. I think that this event correlates strongly with the theme because people are going to stand together to make sure justice is served. When 9/11 occurred, America pulled together like never before. People donated their time and money in able to help out the people trapped in the rubble or the people injured from the attack. People are going to come together with information about this shooting and justice will be served. At the end of the day people will stand together during a tragic event.

“Citizenship occurs when one becomes responsibly connected to the community/society in which one resides by actively working toward change to benefit others through care, service, social responsibility, and community involvement.”

These two pictures show communities standing together. The top picture could represent a community starting from scratch together. The bottom picture shows a community event, with a diverse group of people praying together.
