Week 6 Post: Consciousness of Self and Commitment by Yani He

Current Event Connection
My current event connection for this week is about an article that tells people the way of being congruent. It is actually a reaction to a book called Unlimited Power: The New Science Of Personal Achievement by Anthony Robbins. The reason for me to choose this article is because I want to tell others don’t be afraid of if you still don’t know exactly what you want out of life. Tony Robbins is an inspiration who started out poor, financially with also physically and emotionally poor. For now, he is very successful. He helps people to understand nothing that goes on in our lives really has any meaning except for the meaning we give it. One-step from the article to help us understand ourselves is keeping a journal of what inspires us. An example from the author is about his own experience of moving to Spain after university. He says people’s minds seem to be naturally more open while life goes in another country. He says he will open up the journal list and get things in when something catches his eyes at anytime. He says over the years by doing so, he has running a really good congruence of himself and enjoying spending his time. Two Visual things
The first picture I choose is about the Consciousness of Self. People who grow up poor or struggling can bring them that feeling of scarcity whatever how life goes on later. I’ve heard some stories about people growing up in depression. One is about a boy who became an orphan at his age of fourteen because of poor financial condition in his family. This experience shaped his attitude toward wealth and money. This boy became quite successful in his later life. However, despite all his comfort in life, he has developed a real scarcity fear as well, which in turn created a social and class self-consciousness because of his younger experience.

The second picture shows Commitment in the life. It is a story about my friend that she made a commitment for herself, because her boyfriend would travel for business for one and half months. She told me she made a commitment to be healthy and fit with being a much better girlfriend. She was stick to the plan to control her weight and improve her cooking, such as downloaded many recipes online and practiced. As her self-commitment, she seemed more beautiful when I saw her through the Facetime. She told me her cooking skill also was better than before.
