Week 4 Visuals and Current Event

The first image I have chosen represents what I first think of when I hear the term citizenship.  I take a lot of pride in being a citizen of the United States of America and would not trade my citizenship for anything.  I also included this image because it represents the Individual Civic Engagement of Political Involvement.  Voting for elected officials is one very important way in which we are able to bring about change.

My second visual for this week was prompted by our discussion forum.  The image is a play on the idea that we are living in a shrinking world.  Because of how interconnected our world is becoming, I feel that it is important to begin viewing ourselves as citizens of the world.  This view of global citizenship would allow us to overcome global issues that we cannot begin to impact while focused on only the local community.
The current event I have chosen to address is the recent series of tornadoes in Oklahoma.  These tornadoes have led to unbelievable destruction and have left thousands of individuals without necessary resources.  While it is difficult to directly aid those in need, the Individual Civic Engagement of Philanthropic Giving enables individuals to provide funds to organizations that are in a position to provide aid.  For instance, organizations such as the American Red Cross accept donations via text message or online.
