I chose (another) image of the Peace Corps to represent what I've learned through the Social Change Model. Almost every lesson we have learned about and discussed, I have been able to apply it to my decision for wanting to join the Peace Corps and how I will be able to apply it once I am in my country at the beginning of next year. I think the 7 Cs represented all that is asked about a Peace Corps volunteer, from Commitment to committing to living in a rural village in a foreign country for 27 month, to Collaboration, being able to collaborate with other volunteers and members of your community to make it the best experience to both parties. I think it will be vital for me to remember the 7 Cs when I am trying to lead my community to the best of my ability a year from now, despite the hardships I may be facing.
I chose this quote from Dr. Seuss's the Lorax to also represent my feelings toward the social change model. I think the ultimate bottom line of learning about the 7 Cs and Social Change Model is realizing that a leader must lead by wanting to change something and acting on it. This brings up Common Purpose, a leader needs to be able to lead a group of people because they care enough for something, whether it be saving a forest or finishing a group project. The most important quality a leader can have is leading by example and by demonstrating the 7 Cs so that the leader will be respected and followed.
