I chose this picture because I believe in order to call yourself a good citizen, you must be willing to take time out of your day or week or month to volunteer in your community. It can be as simple as donating canned foods to different organizations or going out and planting vegetable plants at a local garden that serves the needy. Whatever the case may be, we must volunteer our time for the betterment of others.

I chose this picture because I believe it is our duty, as citizens of the United States, to keep this nation thriving. The first step to doing this is by putting the proper people in office by making sure we take the time to vote. If you fail to vote on the next president, governor, or whoever it may be, then you have no right to complain about the decisions that he/she makes. However, if we take the time to do our homework and vote for the person we believe best fits our needs, then we will be just fine.

Current Event:

One of the forms of individual civic engagement is direct service. This means giving personal time and energy to address immediate community needs. Growing up my parents always emphasized the importance of volunteering in the community and being happy to do it. Although I have not done this as much as I should, whenever I do choose to volunteer, I always find it very worthwhile. The current event that I chose talks about how Kevin Durant donated one million dollars to Oklahoma tornado relief fund. In addition to his donation, he also went out into the community and helped clean up the debris and talk to the victims. He could have just as easily donated his money and been done with the situation, but he chose to do more. It shows that although a lot of celebrities shed a negative light, some people in that level of society do positive things as well, and it does not get much better than this.
