Week 5 Post: Skyler Dutkiewicz

The first picture, below, that I wanted to post for this week is a visual representation of Common Purpose. This image is of a group that traveled to the east coast this past Fall to aid in the clean up and re-building efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. I think this really speaks to the ability of many people coming together to re-build entire houses, streets, towns, buildings, stores, and more. There is no stronger Common Purpose, in my opinion, than when we unite to help each other, even when there is no direct or tangible benefit to us and I believe this image truly captures this idea.

The second visual I wanted to post is an image that represents the idea of Collaboration. After the Boston Marathon bombings, the Boston Red Sox collaborated with artist Neil Diamond and many of their star players, namely David Ortiz, to hold a memorial concert of sorts prior to a game just days after the tragic events. This is when the entire crowd joined in singing the national anthem with Neil Diamond, held the "Boston Strong" signs up, and truly showed that a collaborative effort like this, bringing in different groups and people to bring the entire crowd of over 40,000 together, can be extremely effective in uniting a city to overcome tragedy.
