Elizabeth Wenner- Week 4

Two Citizenship Visuals-
I chose this image above as a representation of how college students apply their use of technology to be a global citizen. Whenever natural disasters happen, Red Cross sets up a donation system through text messages. College students being as invested in their phones as their are, connect to this idea and are able to step up as a citizen and donate money to help on a global level.

The image above for me is representing a couple different C's for the reading that relate to being a citizen. It does not only mean collaborating with the people on your campus, city, or on a global level, seen by the different images of people overlapping. It also means reevaluating and making sure your "choices are Congruent with your beliefs." Which I feel is represented here by the faces being very apparent, showing that they are representing who they portray.

Current Event-

The current event I chose is one that I’ve been directly involved in. It is part of the Philanthropic Giving category in civil engagement section of the book. Its called “Operation Christmas Child.” It’s a global effort in donations of shoeboxes with gifts for needy children. My local church every year does a fundraiser and people within the community, fill and wrap shoeboxes, drop them off at the church and the church then gives them to Operation Christmas Child. The shoeboxes/ gifts are then sent out and delivered all over the world for Christmas time. It’s such a small donation but can mean so much to someone who isn’t able to have those things. This relates to this week because this is one way college students, or anyone can become involved, and impact change on a global level. A simple donation is all that is needed to have a positive affect on people all around the world. The website for their cause is- http://www.operationchristmaschild.org.uk/
