Week 3: Joshua D. Vaughn

No Kid Hungry

The first image that I have chosen is the logo of the No Kid Hungry organization.  I had the opportunity to volunteer with one of their programs in Grand Rapids.  One of my first reflection paper goals was to help this organization continue to succeed and further meet the needs of hungry children.  I was reminded of this organization while reading the chapters on applying the Social Change Model.  They have done a wonderful job entrenching themselves in the community and treating the problems of the surrounding people as their own problems.  Because of their citizenship and collaboration, they have been able to have an impact and bring change to the childhood hunger dilemma.

This visual relates to the metaphor I described in this week's discussion forum.  The individual ingredients represent a fragmented approach.  The completed gumbo in the photo on the right represents the systems view of change in this metaphor.  Bringing together the ingredients is similar to how collaboration incorporates multiple perspectives to create change.
