Week 7 Post: Curtis Kocher

The first photo I decided to choose this week which represents me and my overall thoughts on the Social Change Model was of a person thinking. One of the things I learned in this class was about the value of Consciousness of Self. In order for leaders to be successful by using Consciousness of Self, they must have the ability to reflect on prior experiences, and also take feedback in order to learn on how to improve their mistakes. Before this class, I had been placed in many leadership positions yet I rarely ever reflected on them and tried to learn from them. Now I understand that people who can look back on prior experiences can learn how to incorporate their values and principles into new leadership methods. I feel this photo represents me well because from now on, i will always reflect on my leadership experiences in order to improve on them.

The second photo I decided to choose was a group of people that are formed in the shape of an arrow. Another thing that the Social Change Model taught me was in order for social change to work, everyone must share a common purpose. This can happen if each person collaborates their ideas together and in turn create shared visions. Before this class, I felt that sharing a common purpose was not important when leading a group of people. I thought that the main thing that was needed was the ability to just get along with everyone. I learned that getting people to share a common purpose can connect individual members together and it can help shape future goals. I feel that this photo is a great representation of me because now that I know how to get people to share a common purpose, I can lead them all in the same direction. To me, this photo shows a leader leading his followers in the same direction and i feel each follower understands what their common purpose is.
