The first visual I am posting pertains to Consciousness of Self. I found this cartoon and I think this is captures or at least visualizes the need of being aware of our own values, beliefs, perspectives, and ideals. When we understand and are fully aware of this aspects of our inner self then we are able to understand how to best motivate ourselves to take postive action and be postive leaders. Obviously, looking in the mirror is a very straight forward representation of taking an inner look at ourselves, but it represents the idea nonetheless and I liked this cartoon.
The second visual I am posting for this week represents the idea of Commitment. Commitment is all about the inner motivation and energy that drives us to work toward the common goal of whatever group or team we belong to and to drive to the top to make change. This image is of a man who climbed Mount Everest and I think this really represents commitment. Climbing any mountain, let alone Everest, takes years of training and preparation, weeks to climb the mountain itself, and is not just a flash in the pan activity. It truly takes an intense commitment to accomplish such an amazing task as climbing the tallest mountain in the world and I think this really captures what we read about commitment this week.
Current Event Connection
For my current event connection for this week, I chose the story of Ryan Chalmers who recently pushed himself 3,000 miles across the country in his wheel chair. He is a former Paralympian who competed in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. He and a group that he organized put together this event of pushing across the country to raise awareness and funds for children and others who do not have the use of their legs. He said that he did this in hopes of inspiring those that are less fortunate physically to understand that they can accomplish the same things as the able-bodied and to not let the physical set back stop them from striving to the top and aspiring to be amazing people who accomplish amazing goals. For me, this really captures what we read about this week. Congruence is all about having actions that run hand-in-hand with our beliefs. In other words, don’t just talk the talk but walk the walk – or push. I found this story to be extremely inspiring and it is amazing the volumes that this story speaks to what we read about. Chalmers wanted to send a message to inspire those like him to be the best and strive to the top; he shows congruence by not just telling people to do it, but by literally pushing himself 3,000 miles across the entire country to represent what can be done when we commit ourselves to a positive goal. I think this story really relates to all of the Seven C’s and I encourage everyone to read the article below!
