I chose this image from Harry Potter because it the mirror
of Erised (desire spelled backwards). We are talking about reflection of self
and consciousness of how we interact with different people. In this scene,
Harry sees himself, but his also sees his ideal life of having his parents be
with him. When we reflect on what's important to us, we can better see our own
desires in acting as a leader. In contrast, we also need to assess ourselves in
a truthful way and not deceive ourselves. Because we are aiming to have a
certain personality as a leader, it may be possible that we are only seeing our
desired actions as opposed to how we are really interacting. We need to be
looking through the mirror and keeping both ideas in mind so that we are not
blinded by our desires, but that we also see how we can better achieve them in
working towards being a better leader.
I chose The Alchemist
by Paulo Coelho because in the book it talks about truly being dedicated to
your Personal Legend and having the courage to continue on your path to find
your own treasure. The specific quote that I can draw from this is "When you really want something to
happen, the whole world conspires to help you achieve it." This week's
reading also talks about commitment and having an individual passion for
wanting change to occur. I think that this quote demonstrates how committed a
person has to be in order for them to truly be successful and find meaning in
their lives. This applies to leadership because a person must be very committed
to the cause and persistent in their seeking of change. Just like the main
character of this book, leaders should
never give up seeking their treasure and their Personal Legend, because they
will find that through dedication and ability to follow their intuition, that
they can make the change that they are looking for.
